developers, managers, everyone

Prerequisite knowledge

This session is for everyone who wants to improve their communication. An interest in interactive practice and learning is helpful for this session.

What you'll learn

-Improved listening skills via learning listening levels to build self awareness -Learn communication techniques to help others feel heard like asking open-ended "what" questions -Get a taste of what it's like to coach another person through a challenge.

Description

Listening is power. By “tuning in” and applying self management and directed curiosity you can help others solve their own problems. Doing this not only leads to greater ownership, but also more leaders in your organization instead of “order takers”. In this interactive talk I’ll teach you practical communication skills so you can become a more available and empowering coworker, friend and leader.

This was given at Rubyconf 2017 Nov 16 and a confreaks video will be available within a month. http://rubyconf.org/program
