Description

Serverless design patterns have grown in popularity because they allow developers to move faster by focusing on business logic without worrying about the underlying infrastructure where their code is run. However, many enterprises use diverse infrastructure, including on-premises servers and multiple clouds.

Priyanka Sharma and Sébastien Goasguen leverage Knative, the Kubernetes-based platform, to build, deploy, and manage modern serverless workloads, to push serverless functions and apps to production on any cloud of choice, and to switch the provider as necessary. You’ll be able to use GitLab and TriggerMesh technology and learn how to use other options.

Prerequisite knowledge

  • Experience programming
  • A basic understanding of serverless
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes (useful but not required)

Materials or downloads needed in advance

  • A laptop
  • A GitLab account (useful but not required)

What you'll learn

  • Learn how to build and deploy a serverless function in a cloud-agnostic manner
  • Understand the basics of Knative and its autoscaling capabilities
  • Deploy to a cloud of your choice using GitLab and TriggerMesh

TriggerMesh

Sébastien Goasguen built his first compute cluster while working on his PhD in the late ‘90s when they were still called Beowulf clusters; he’s been working on making computing a utility since then. He’s been focused on containers and container orchestration, creating a Kubernetes startup Skippbox where he created kompose, Cabin, and kubeless. Active in the serverless community, he cofounded TriggerMesh, a serverless management platform that builds on top of Kubernetes and Knative. He can be found hiking the Jura or at open source conferences. He’s the author of the Docker Cookbook and coauthor of the Kubernetes Cookbook.
