BGP edge optimization with active measurement
Who is this presentation for?
- Network, traffic, and performance teams and engineers
Level
Description
BGP is famously simple. One may be forgiven for even saying it’s dumb sometimes. That simplicity led many organizations to build complicated systems to drive their routing and shape their traffic. As your company grows, BGP must adapt to address concerns that weren’t even a dream when it was first conceived.
For example, it’s common knowledge that as_path length is a subpar method of traffic engineering. Similarly, geography, which matters a great deal for most applications, is completely ignored by the only routing protocol available. There are a myriad other subjective metrics that matter that can be included in decision matrices. Join in to learn about a framework that allows you to work with those metrics and easily add others as needed.
Nathanael Jean-Francois dives into measuring from the interested edge location’s vantage point, data aggregation and processing, extracting insight to leverage in an edge routing decision matrix, and leveraging BGP optimizations to meet business and performance needs.
Prerequisite knowledge
- General knowledge of BGP and how the internet works
What you'll learn
- Understand how to measure internet performance and use that data to make routing decisions that are more aligned with business needs
