Description
CouchDB 3.0 isn’t even out yet, so why should we be talking about CouchDB 4.0? Easy, because it constitutes the biggest change in CouchDB development history: changing from an eventually consistent data store to a fully consistent data store.
Jan Lehnardt examines the challenges and solutions of changing the storage and distributed systems underpinnings from AP to CP (as per CAP) while retaining the unique multimaster replication APIs that CouchDB is renowned for.
CouchDB 1.0 was a fully consistent data store by accident, but was designed to be eventually consistent. CouchDB 2.0 finally introduced clustering and relaxed the accidental consistency property in favor of the eventual consistent vision. CouchDB 4.0 brings back the best of CouchDB 1.0 combined with all the advancements made in CouchDB 2.0. And of course, you’ll solve the mystery of what happened to CouchDB 3.0.
Prerequisite knowledge
- A general knowledge of database programming
- Experience with distributed systems (useful but not required)
What you'll learn
