The state of statelessness

Erica Windisch (IOpipe)
4:35pm–5:15pm Thursday, June 14, 2018
Serverless
Location: 230 B Level: Intermediate
Secondary topics: Systems Monitoring & Orchestration

Prerequisite knowledge

  • Familiarity with microservices, serverless, or nanoservice applications

What you'll learn

  • Learn why observing this state and knowing where, how, and why that state is manipulated is important for operational security and developer concerns such as debugging

Description

Serverless platforms enforce ephemerality and immutability in a way that demands what we commonly think of as a stateless architecture. While these are not new, the lack of visibility into underlying infrastructure reinforces the need for greater application observability.

Erica Windisch challenges the notion of statelessness and explore the necessity of observing application state for the purposes of debugging, performance optimizations, and security auditing.
