O'Reilly Media RFID Policy
We are scanning badges:
O'Reilly began using passive Radio Frequency Identification ("RFID") technology at some of our events in 2015, specifically as an element of our conference badges.
How does O'Reilly use RFID?
O'Reilly conference badges contain a passive RFID chip which can be read by scanners placed in conference venues or used by O'Reilly staff. The RFID chip in each badge does not carry the Registrant Information (defined below), however, the chip contains a unique ID number that is correlated with your registrant personal information, including but not limited to your name, company, phone number, mailing address, and email address ("Registrant Information"), by O'Reilly. O'Reilly may use Registrant Information collected via this RFID technology to communicate with you about our conferences and to improve them. For example, we may use your Registrant Information to send an email asking for attendee feedback. While we work with third-party technology partners, we will not share your Registrant Information with outside parties for commercial purposes not related to O'Reilly. We will disclose your Registrant Information when required by law. For more information on our commitment to your privacy, please visit www.oreilly.com/privacy.html.
How does O'Reilly not use RFID?
O'Reilly does not share RFID information with outside parties for any marketing purposes. O'Reilly does not authorize third parties to use RFID information for authentication purposes or to track attendance. O'Reilly does not track RFID tags after the conference has ended, or in areas other than the event venue(s).
