Getting Started with the Google Maps API

The Google Maps API allows you to embed Google Maps into your website. Come to this session to learn how to get started using the Google Maps JavaScript API to create custom maps for your website. During this session, you will learn how to embed a map on a website, add markers to the map, and apply several customizations.

NOTE: Attendees should have Google Chrome (or a WebKit-based browser) installed on their laptops.

Kathryn Hurley


Kathryn Hurley recently joined Google as a Developer Programs Engineer for Fusion Tables. In this role, she helps spread the word about Fusion Tables by presenting at conferences and developer events. She recently worked on Google’s 2010 U.S. Election Ratings gadget. She received an MS in Web Science from the University of San Francisco and a BS in Genetics from the University of California, Davis. Prior work experience includes research in mobile and peer-to-peer computing.

Andrés Ferraté


Andrés manages the Maps Developer Relations team. Prior to joining the Maps team, he worked as a Developer Advocate for Google TV, helping developers build cool and compelling applications for those platforms. Andrés has a broad range of experience, having worked with various technologies in the past 14 years in the private, public, and non-profit sectors.
