Using Social Networks for Social Change

Moderated by: Maggie Soladay & Amanda Koster
Location: Sierra I Level:

Web 2.0 brought us social networks, with communication tools like email and instant messaging. Now, Facebook, Flickr, and Twitter are more than people-connectors: They can be platforms for driving social change. In Web 2.0, the next step is making it matter.

We combine the efficiency of social networking as a communications platform with compelling story-telling through media. Take this opportunity to act and call other people around the world to action.

New platforms are needed to fill the void mainstream media has left for positive stories. What is possible with the right collaborations between media makers and the Web2.0 community?

The SalaamGarage team, founder Amanda Koster and producer Maggie Soladay, will share ways anyone can use his or her own voice and media to cause change and save lives. SalaamGarage shows how through travel people can transform the way they relate to the world, tell those stories, and cause change.

Hello, Are there other days both of you will be conducting a talk and/or session? I may not be able to make this time. Also, is it necessary to have already submitted a proposal or can one be an observer and participant once there?

Thank you, Pooja
