Every generation witnesses the birth of a new entertainment medium. Audiences have grown up with stories that evolved to fit books, television, or the big screen. For us, the new medium is the Internet. Yet to date, our best attempts at story telling have consisted of shrinking large-scale media down to the size of a postage stamp and embedding it on a webpage. This talk will focus on a new form of storytelling called Alternate Reality Games. One of the ARG pioneers will lead a discussion about the evolution of storytelling that spans websites, cell phones, email, and physical spaces, and what may be our first glimpse at the kind of stories the Internet was built for.
