Alex Payne is API Lead at Twitter, a social network of individuals sharing short status updates via the web, SMS, IM, and an extremely popular API. Since taking on the support and development of Twitter’s API, the service has grown to hundreds of millions of requests per day. Alex’s background is in web application development and information security, and his code has powered mission-critical operations, political campaigns, and non-profit initiatives. Alex lives and works in San Francisco.

I have never seen a session on a language before with NO examples of the language itself! The background info was great, but then there should have been a few (or even one) simple code example…

Quite interesting presentation but as a developer I was missing to see the real code.

Sure, it was probably a choice not to show any, but running a basic example “Hello Scala” with one of the tools (Eclipse, NetBeans, IDEA or others) to compile and run it and see some debugging sessions would have been of much interest.
