Non-Traditional Hiring: Mining Your Customer Community as a Rich Hiring Pool

Strategy & Business Models
Location: Conference Room D Level:

From managers to front-line customer service reps, great people are core to user satisfaction and corporate growth. Just as important as its service or product offering are the people that help move the organization forward on a daily basis. Most employees move on from jobs because of their manager. Most users love a company because of that one service rep who was empowered to solve their problem quickly. Finding the right talent is key to a company’s success, and it’s a seller’s market.

There is a rich new source of potential star employees, thanks to the internet and proliferation of popular social media channels, and dozens, hundreds, or perhaps even thousands of potential employees are out there who possess hard-to-define qualities every hiring manager looks for: A passion, energy and enthusiasm for your brand. Of course you look for authentic passion during the traditional hiring process, but instead those qualities can be the baseline “skill set” you start with!

This session will highlight the variety of methods businesses can use to find brand evangelists, and define strategies that can help uncover their relevant expertise and skills, and convert them into high-performing employees. Additionally, through examples of successful recruitment of its own brand evangelists, BlogHer will show how it has successfully tapped into this important group to create strong, passionate, and committed teams since its creation in 2005.
