The goal of this session is to demystify the “viral video” and demonstrate that there is in fact a science to creating viral hits, which is employed by the most successful video producers on YouTube. Prerna Gupta is CEO of Khush, a development studio that creates intelligent music apps. Prerna has produced viral videos for her company’s flagship product, LaDiDa, which received over 100 million views and earned LaDiDa a coveted spot in Apple’s Top 10 Music iPhone App category.

Prerna will discuss what she has learned about crafting a product message in the form of a viral video and maximizing the chances that a video will go viral. She will walk audiences through viral videos categorically, ranging from small hits (250k-500k views), medium hits (1M-5M views) and monster hits (10M+ views), and examine the key “viral characteristics” that contributed to each video’s success. Prerna will also discuss strategies for integrating product demos into these viral characteristics, and analyze the trade-offs between including substantial product demos versus simple product placements.

Examples of viral videos Prerna has produced for LaDiDa include a dog singing with her iPad, an orange annoying an iPhone, and Katy Perry ordering a lyrical lunch.

Prerna will also offer some tricks-of-the-trade for low-cost viral video production.
