What you'll learn

  • Explore challenges Helm faced and some solutions

Description

Package managers are hard. Helm learned a lot of lessons from others’ mistakes but also repeated some. For example, having a single index file per repository is not scalable. It’s the same mistake that NPM made, and it causes slower CI, high memory consumption, slower searches, and more. Another example is not having private enterprise repositories in mind, leaving out authorization and authentication features.

Baruch Sadogursky explores several solutions to those problems, covering their strengths and their weaknesses.

This session is sponsored by JFrog.

Baruch Sadogursky (JBaruch) is a developer advocate at JFrog. His passion is speaking about technology. Well, speaking in general, but doing it about technology makes him look smart, and 17 years of high-tech experience sure helps. When he’s not on stage (or on a plane to get there), he learns about technology, people, and how they work or—more precisely—don’t work together. He’s a CNCF ambassador, Developer Champion, and a professional conference speaker on DevOps, Java, and Groovy topics. He’s also a regular at the industry’s most prestigious events, such as JavaOne (where he was awarded a Rock Star award), DockerCon, Devoxx, devopsdays, OSCON, and Qcon.
