The Performance team at Etsy began publishing a quarterly Site Performance Report in August of 2011 with the goal of holding ourselves accountable to our community for improving performance. As one of the first (and still one of the few) companies to do so, we created our methodology as we went – from defining our core metrics to building and deploying new monitoring tools that we now use for detecting regressions in real time. We’ll talk about our implementation of these tools, and also about tailoring your performance story for your various audiences. We’ll show how being transparent with performance data offers a challenge to your engineering team and opens a dialog with the web performance community, catalyzing the performance culture in your organization. Attendees will come away with practical tools for publishing their own performance reports and compelling arguments for convincing their organization to do so.
