We know that a happy team is a strong team, and a strong team is a diverse team. But how do you foster diversity in a community that is known for homogeny? I have some simple tools that will help you and your team create a space for nurturing diversity. One of the keys to a welcoming team is to clear the playing field of obstacles, and one of the most common obstacles women face is mansplaining. Mansplaining is when a man falsely assumes a woman doesn’t know something and over-explains it in an often condescending (although unintentional) manner. Mansplaining is tricky to identify, but easy to avoid. This talk will introduce ways to foster a work environment where mansplaining, and similar challenges, become a thing of the past.
