The old model of “productionizing” a release after it leaves development is flawed and often leads to disaster. In this presentation, Lee and Damon make the case that the recipe for successful web operations must include:

1. Beginning with the earliest stages of Development, substantial investment in production quality deployment and testing automation

2. The expansion of an IT organization’s view of “production” to include the full application lifecycle (from early integrated development environments through to customer-facing environments).

Drawing on Lee and Damon’s experiences inside leading companies, (including HP, ETRADE, Zynga, LinkedIn, CapitalOne, Intuit) this presentation will provide examples and lessons learned about:

  • How to make deployment to customer facing environments a non-event¬†
  • Automated deployment and testing strategies that unlock the value of both operations and development teams
  • Leveraging fully automated cloud infrastructure for testing environments
  • Implementing consistent tooling across the entire lifecycle of your service
  • DevOps strategies for elevating operational requirements to first-order citizens alongside functional business requirements
  • Reducing technical debt through the adoption of an “operations first” mentality
