Description

We will provide the following solutions for gaining company-wide adoption of measures to improve site performance at Ancestry.com.

  • Overview of implementing SLA and big data solution for collecting statistics that lead to 95% adoption.
  • Incorporating grades for teams that support the top busiest 30 pages on Ancestry.com.
  • Correlating performance data with business metrics. We will discuss which business metrics have proven to influence decision-makers at all levels and how to correlate these with performance data.

These and other approaches have provided immediate value of the site performance efforts for the business.

Attendees will leave with a clear, architectural understanding of how we collect statistics and present SLA data for charts and graphs. Additionally, they’ll have a clear understanding of how to incorporate measures for gaining company-wide sponsorship for improving the most important metrics for site performance.

Norm Warren works for Ancestry.com to help people discover, preserve, and share their family history by providing site performance charts and graphs that monitor, trend, get to root cause, and more. He is author of Business Intelligence in Microsoft SharePoint 2013 for O’Reilly/MS Press with SQL Server MVP Stacia Misner, and PowerPivot expert Mariano Teixeira Neto.

Norm has his Master’s degree in computer information technology and recently earned his MBA with an emphasis in financial accounting. He was previously a writer for SQL Server accounting tools and SharePoint Server 2010 at Microsoft, and has written articles for the information worker, IT Pro, and SQL Server® BI developer audiences. Norm has been an active member of the community to provide the right content about using tools such as tableau from big data sources. He enjoys spending time with his family, mountain biking, and sharing his passion for BI in SharePoint.

Jeremy Johnson

Ancestry.com

Jeremy Johnson currently works as the site performance manager for Ancestry.com. His responsibilities include helping guide the Ancestry site performance team, mentor team members, and help drive the changes needed to keep the site as responsive and fast as possible. He also has 14 years web development experience using C#, PHP, Java, ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, CSS, Javascript, JQuery, MySql, and SqlServer. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems from Utah Valley University in April, 2004.
