Book publishers are now running two companies simultaneously, the (old media) company which is their current business (and most of their revenue stream) and a (new media) company with new and often different business models. There has never been more opportunity (or greater challenges) for book publishers.

This session examines assessing book/author verticals, translating verticals into customer communities and potential revenues including and beyond e-books, stripping costs out of our legacy systems, the management challenges of running two companies and publishing opportunities beyond the traditional book.

Dominique Raccah is the publisher of Sourcebooks, the company she founded in 1987 as a source of financial information for bankers, which turned out to be about as interesting as it sounds. From that small start, Raccah has directed a continuously growing entrepreneurial company that morphed into a general trade house which happily produces everything from New York Times bestsellers in fiction, to number one titles in both baby names and college guides. Dominique is excited about creating the next generation book publishing company and currently serves as co-chair of the Book Industry Study Group.

Super information – more details than I could keep up with, but definitely sparked some thought and internal debate, and thinking about farming existing data in ways beyond a digital framework.
