Publishers are increasingly faced with decisions about where to make the investments to maximize their opportunities. Consumers are demanding more flexibility and speed in the ways that they purchase content. Digital options continue to emerge, while print is very much with us. Developing the right balance is difficult. This session will explore the changes in the marketplace and how some publishers are working with the Ingram content companies to develop a comprehensive but nimble approach.

Lightning Source, Inc.

David Taylor was named President of Lightning Source Inc. in June 2008.

Mr. Taylor joined Lightning Source U.K. in June 2003 as Business Development Director and was named Managing Director in December 2003. In June 2006 he took on the newly created role of Senior Vice President, Global Sales, Lightning Source Inc.

Mr. Taylor has 24 years of experience in the U.K. and international book trades in a wide range of senior management positions including on line bookselling, retail bookselling and library supply. He is a former Director of Blackwell’s international library supply business. He served on the Booksellers’ Association of the UK and Ireland’s Council for several years and is a former Chairman of the College and University Bookseller’s Group and the Internet Bookseller’s Group, the latter of which he founded. He is a regular speaker at book trade conferences and has published a number of articles on the impact that new technologies are having on the book trade supply chain. He is a member of the Society of Bookmen.

Mr. Taylor has a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Reading, England. He has also completed a Diploma in Management Studies and an MBA. He lives in Freeland, Oxfordshire, with his wife Caroline and two sons, Harry and George.

Frank Daniels

Ingram Digital

Frank Daniels III is Chief Operating Officer of Ingram Digital, a digital content services company, and President and CEO of Vital Source Inc., a member of Ingram Digital, which provides software and service solutions to the education market.

Mr. Daniels has primary management responsibility over all Ingram Digital operations in North America, in addition to coordinating operational activities for the company on a global basis.

In 2001, he joined Vital Source as President and CEO and directed the company, as it emerged as the leader in educational content delivery in such sectors as dental, nursing and law. Ingram Digital then acquired Vital Source in 2006.

He has an extensive background as a new media entrepreneur. Nationally recognized as an Internet visionary, Daniels spearheaded the launch of the country’s first online newspaper, He went on to form the digital sports media company Total Sports Inc., with clients like the NCAA, Major League Baseball and 100 colleges and universities. Mr. Daniels successfully led Total Sports Inc. to an IPO in 2000.

He began his career as a newspaper reporter in Missouri and later held senior level positions at several publications in both editorial and corporate capacities with The Ledger-Star in Norfolk, VA, and The News and Observer Publishing Company in Raleigh, NC.

Mr. Daniels holds a B.A. in Economics from Duke University and sits on the board of trustees of the North Carolina Symphony. He has taught at Duke University and Peace College, and served on numerous civic, industry and corporate boards, including the New Media Federation of the NAA as president.
