In this 2-session “mini-track,” Erin Kissane leads a panel of artists (author, editor, designer/developer, poet, and multimedia producer) in exploring how technology is influencing art and authoring, and how the very nature of creation is being redefined by networked and other tech tools.
Topics for discussion:
Erin Kissane is co-founder and editor of Contents, an online magazine that draws connections between new forms of editorial work, publishing, and journalism. She also edits Knight-Mozilla’s Source, a community site that highlights the work of data journalists and newsroom coders.
She is the author of The Elements of Content Strategy (A Book Apart, 2011), and has worked with clients including W.W. Norton, Thomson Reuters, and the US Patent & Trademark Office to develop unified workflows and tools for publishing on the web. She was formerly the editor of A List Apart magazine and editorial director of Happy Cog Studios.
She lives in Brooklyn and blogs infrequently at Incisive.nu.
Todd Boss is the literary director and co-founder of MOTIONPOEMS, a new poetry film company now partnering with Copper Canyon, Graywolf, BEST AMERICAN POETRY and other publishers. A 2013 premiere of new works will be screened at the Walker Art Center in April. Todd’s poetry collections are YELLOWROCKET (W. W. Norton, 2008) and PITCH (2011).
Louis-Jacques Darveau is Publisher and Editor of The Alpine Review, an ambitious new independent magazine that has been referred to as “a compendium of ideas for a world in transition”.
A recovering lawyer and refugee from the land of boardrooms, Louis-Jacques consults independently to both public and private institutions, focusing on new ventures, innovation opportunities, product development and marketing. He has wide-ranging experience working with high-profile clients in Canada, the US and Europe, delivering performance-boosting solutions. His passions include issues of complexity, turbulence, good governance and good society. LJ is currently based in Montréal, where he lives with his wife and daughter.

He is the coauthor of The Clock Without a Face, a treasure-hunt mystery, and Everything You Know Is Pong, an illustrated cultural history of ping pong, and his design work has been honored by I.D., Print and the American Institute of Graphic Arts. Before McSweeney’s, he was employed as a carpenter and wrote science trivia questions tenuously linked to popular films. He was born in Virginia and now lives in San Francisco.
