Cloud-nativing AI (sponsored by VMware)

Patricia Florissi (Dell EMC)
11:00am11:40am Thursday, October 31, 2019
Location: Grand Ballroom G

As businesses of all sizes strive to become more mature on their digital journey, they are consistently seeking to design, build and run new applications according to the state-of-the-art cloud native principles, while selecting and prioritizing which existing applications should be re-factored to abide to them.

Simultaneously, artificial intelligence (AI) workloads are rapidly migrating from pilots to production, assuming an ever more mission critical role, and becoming ever more interwoven into businesses’ digital strategy. And yet, not all AI workloads are being designed, built and run in a cloud native manner, introducing technical debt into foundational elements of the digital fabric being constructed today.

Patricia Florissi identifies some intrinsic patterns in the anatomy of emerging digital fabrics, including those demanding agility in adapting to change, in dynamically creating connectivity meshes, and in scaling in size and complexity to unprecedented rates. She then explains how these patterns drive the need for other patterns in the design of the digital fabric that depend on cloud, containers, and cloud-native principles. Along the way, Patricia examines AI workloads through a series of lenses, describing their workflows, pinpointing critical areas in designing for scale, and highlighting design decision points where cloud native principles must be applied.

This session is sponsored by VMware.
