Description

Large-scale open source projects can be daunting, and one of the goals of TensorFlow is to be accessible to many contributors. Joana Carrasqueira and Nicole Pang share some great ways to get involved in TensorFlow, explain how its design and development works, and show you how to get started if you’re new to machine learning or new to TensorFlow.

They cover a variety of ways for you to participate, including Special Interest Groups, which are project-specific groups for collaboration and contribution; request for comments (RFCs), the open discussion of design directions; documentation and translation communities; user groups and the Google Developer Expert ML program; and GitHub and Stack Overflow. On the learning side, they cover new education resources, how you can learn TensorFlow from TensorFlow instructors and renowned faculty in academia, and how to showcase your TensorFlow expertise as you gain skill sets crucial to getting involved in the machine learning world.

Joana Filipa Bernardo Carrasqueira

Google

Joana Carrasqueira is a developer relations program manager for TensorFlow at Google Brain, where she focuses on bringing together subject-matter experts in order to build an open source community around TensorFlow. Previously, she worked on innovation consulting at the Silicon Valley Innovation Center and managed the education department at the International Pharmaceutical Federation for the United Nations, where she helped develop new healthcare policies in more than 12 countries and coauthored the WHO guidelines on antimicrobial resistance. Joana’s research has been published in various scientific journals, and she holds a master’s in pharmaceutical sciences and an executive MBA from IE Business School.

Nicole Pang

Google

Nicole Pang is a product manager for TensorFlow at Google Brain. She leads TensorFlow’s worldwide efforts user growth and education initiatives. Previously, she was the product lead for user safety at Tumblr, a social networking company, and later, the product lead for growth at an AI startup in San Francisco. Nicole received her BS in computer science and engineering from MIT.
