As applications increase in usage and users, understanding data dramatically increases the ability to drive metrics like growth, engagement, and revenue. Unfortunately, as applications increase in usage and users, the volume of information quickly increases, making it harder for analysts to work with data. Leveraging our experience from working on some of the largest-scale high-growth applications at Facebook and other companies, this talk outlines 10 lessons learned, along with best practices towards extracting the most value out of data. We’ll talk about the various systems we built that helped democratize data, and how that dramatically changed the way people interacted with data. The lessons range from data collection to data analysis, and how to provide stakeholders with visual responsive tools to best understand and improve their product, while also avoiding many common pitfalls.
