Products of all kinds – phones, energy meters, medical devices, hard drives, routers and more – are embedded with software and sensors that connect them to the Internet and generating goldmines of data that can and should be used to gain competitive advantages. Using new big data technologies and analytic applications, product developers are creating new revenue, enhanced offerings and improved features. Self-service analytics and benchmarking, as well as predictive models, are creating new paradigms for sales, marketing, engineering, product development and customer support.

This session looks at the business models emerging across industries, how Big Data is enabling them, important data sets to consider, emerging standards and impediments to adoption

We look at examples from several industries, highlighting common business themes, the role of data sets and third parties, challenges and solutions. Based on these examples, we draw some general conclusions about architectures, phases of adoption, opportunities and expected futures as these trends accelerate.
