Leveraging Hadoop Data: High Performance Analytics On ParAccel

Sponsored Sessions Ballroom H

The jury is out: running analytics using MapReduce, Hive, or Impala is extremely slow with very little support for SQL. With data piling up and analytics poised to be the leading value creation engine for big data apps, there is growing demand from companies to predict, prescribe, and prevent. ParAccel runs analytic queries 100x faster than Hive with much deeper SQL Support. Hear how companies are using analytic platforms for fast, interactive analysis on big data.

Walt Maguire is the Analytics Director for ParAccel. Walt started working with data when Big Data meant less than a megabyte – writing his first analytic routines on an IBM XT he’d built from parts purchased at Fry’s Electronics in 1988. He built his first linux system before linux had a name – downloading the kernel from the University of Helsinki in the early 1990’s to systems built from parts. Since then, he has worked in analytics settings ranging from mainframe programming for academia to managing a multi-terabyte data infrastructure for an internet company to working with companies running petabyte–scale data warehouses. At one time or another he’s worked with most of the tools and technologies data management and analysis. His focus today is on building ParAccel’s analytics capability and linking that to tangible business value for the marketplace. Walt has a B.A. from San Francisco State University and an MBA from Babson College, Franklin W. Olin Graduate School of Business.
