Description

Ever wondered how Google Translate works so well, how the autocaptioning works on YouTube, or how to mine the sentiments of tweets on Twitter? What’s the underlying theme? They all use deep learning. Bargava Subramanian and Amit Kapoor explore artificial neural networks (ANNs) and deep learning for natural language processing to get you started.

Bargava and Amit begin by introducing you to learning using ANN with the backpropagation algorithm before outlining a preliminary model using multilayer perceptron to get a feel for deep learning model structure and the library Keras. They then turn to state-of-art recurrent neural networks, demonstrating two approaches—one using long short-term memory models and the other leveraging Word2Vec—some ways to overcome overfitting, and how GPUs affect the computation. Bargava and Amit end by demonstrating a recurrent neural network that can do text generation.
