The business value of big data is proven, and companies from all industries are aligning their corporate strategies to embrace big data as a key competitive advantage. But organizational problems such as siloed structures, limited systems, and the lack of know-how slow down the implementation of big data solutions across business units. While most companies have an IT team to take the lead in technical transformation, they have trouble when it comes to implementing analytics.

Carme Artigas explains why an analytics center of excellence (ACoE), whether internal or outsourced, is an effective way to create mechanisms to deploy big data across the entire organization rather than simply serving a particular department or use case. The aim of this initiative is to become company’s central brain, able to discover relevant insights from data, transform them into actionable outputs for business, industrialize the results, and scale up to make companies become real data-driven organizations.

There are different deployment models depending on the core skills the company wants to keep (as well as the big data maturity level of each organization). Carme shares one approach to implementing an ACoE. Along the way, Carme also discusses the best functional area to situate the ACoE and interdependencies with other departments and initiatives and shares real-world examples from different industries.
