In today’s world of data breaches and hackers, security is one of the most important components for big data systems, but unfortunately, it’s usually the area least planned and architected. Security is often an afterthought or is seen as a barrier to speedy implementation. At the same time, authentication in Hadoop can be messy and intimidating. Multiple components are involved, such as Kerberos and Active Directory, and often one or both of these tools are managed outside of the Hadoop admin’s control.

Matt Bolte and Toni LeTempt share Walmart’s authentication journey, focusing on how decisions made early can have significant impact throughout the maturation of your big data environment. Along the way, Matt and Toni demonstrate how to use Kerberos and Active Directory to provide secure authentication to your cluster and share tips, best practices, and troubleshooting insights for both Kerberos and Active Directory Hadoop issues.
