The conference seems to have reduced its technical content over the past three years and seems to be aimed more at the executive/manager/beginner level than at the practitioner. Also the conference seems to be driven by the cult of the new as opposed to having a balance between the new and the proof points of genuine business value derived from the technology and battle hardened lessons learnt. There were a few good sessions – in the future it may help to have a technical track and a managerial track. For some of the sessions they were light on science i.e. there were hypothesis/predictions, there were statements of fact, but no proof; or, where predictions were being made no demonstration of what would be measured to indicate success and how this could be shown to be causation rather than correlation.

For the conference to be a success there may need to be engagement from the budget holders. However, it felt there were fewer technical sessions and fewer technical keynotes (the keynotes seem to be getting more into the ‘soft’ sciences as the years progress).
