Cox Automotive provides services to car manufacturers, leasing companies, and dealers throughout the used vehicle lifecycle, with brands including Manheim, Motors.co.uk, Xtime, CloseIt, Modix, and NextGear. With a vision to transform the way the world buys, sells, and owns vehicles, the Cox Automotive data solutions team’s mission is to help clients make smarter and more informed decisions at every stage of the vehicle lifecycle, provide meaningful, actionable insight into every part of Cox Automotive UK—driving sales, providing better customer service, and improving operational efficiency—and deliver automotive intelligence to transform the way the world interacts with cars.

In September 2015, Cox started with a blank sheet of paper. Since that time, the company has built a successful data solutions business, deployed a cloud-hosted Hadoop cluster, rolled out self-service analytics across the organization, and taken new data products to market.

Allison Nau discusses Cox’s transformation into a data-driven organization, highlighting best practices and lessons learned as the company:

  • Implemented and rolled out Tableau dashboards across the group, which are now used by hundreds of employees each month to improve sales, customer service, and operational efficiency
  • Generated new growth for the business through the innovation and launch of new data products
  • Drove cultural changes required across the business
