Who is this presentation for?

  • CIOs, CTOs, and big data developers

Prerequisite knowledge

  • A general understanding of Hadoop and Apache Kylin

What you'll learn

  • Explore business patterns for Apache Kylin and related big data solutions

Apache Kylin is rapidly being adopted over the world—especially in China. Luke Han explores how various industries use Apache Kylin, sharing why these companies choose Apache Kylin (a technology comparison), how they use Apache Kylin (their production deployment pattern), and most importantly, the resulting business impact. Along the way, Luke outlines best practices learned while implementing Apache Kylin big data solutions

Topics include:

  • A telecom use case—China Mobile (中国移动): Apache Kylin enables user behavior analysis and traffic analysis at a scale that was previously impossible (over 20 billion rows daily). Compared to traditional data warehouse appliance solutions, the hardware cost is 80% lower, the data loading time is 1% of the original, and the query speed is 10x to 100x faster.
  • A retail business use case—Gome (国美): Apache Kylin is the company’s enterprise OLAP platform, assisting with business decisions about profit, risk management, stocking, and pricing. After adopting Apache Kylin, the development cycle was reduced from six months to one month, significantly shortening the ROI cycle.
  • An ecommerce use case— (京东): exposes its transaction data (400 million rows) as an online service, using Apache Kylin as a high-speed and high-throughput query engine, with QPS (query per second) greater than 200 and response time less than a second. Such online service capability is rarely seen from alternative solutions.
  • An O2O use case—Meituan (美团): Meituan did a benchmark on OLAP solutions to choose among Apache Kylin, Druid, ES, and Presto. Apache Kylin was the winner. Its Apache Kylin production adopts read/write separation and HA deployment.
