In this full-day tutorial, we push the envelope of data science, exploring emerging topics and new areas of study made possible by vast troves of raw data and cutting-edge architectures for analyzing and exploring information. Hardcore Data Science offers a chance to dive deeper into data science and add new techniques and technologies to your data science toolbox on topics such as data management, machine learning, natural language processing, crowdsourcing, and algorithm design—all shared by leading data science practitioners.

Track Hosts

Ben Lorica is the Chief Data Scientist and Director of Content Strategy for Data at O'Reilly Media, Inc. He has applied Business Intelligence, Data Mining, Machine Learning and Statistical Analysis in a variety of settings including Direct Marketing, Consumer and Market Research, Targeted Advertising, Text Mining, and Financial Engineering. His background includes stints with an investment management company, internet startups, and financial services.

Angie Ma is co-founder and COO of ASI, a London-based startup that offers bespoke data science and engineering training and internships for partner companies. The training combines the best of academic and startup cultures. She is passionate about enabling companies accessing data science skillsets that generate real business value. Prior to joining ASI, she was a researcher in nanotechnology at UCL.
