Description

Building robust, scalable streaming applications requires good abstractions for managing state and time, and it needs expressive APIs that make it easy to decompose the business logic into operations that can be deployed onto a distributed cluster. Moreover, the runtime has to be fault tolerant and have straightforward mechanisms for supporting application updates, schema evolution, and data migration.

David Anderson and Seth Wiesman take a use case-driven deep dive into parts of Apache Flink, showing how it satisfies these requirements as they develop a ride-sharing application.

Prerequisite knowledge

  • A working knowledge of Java

Materials or downloads needed in advance

  • A laptop with at least 8GB of ram and Docker installed

What you'll learn

  • Understand that stream processing isn’t just for ETL
  • Learn that Apache Flink can support applications requiring complex stateful business logic and does so in a way that feels natural
