Description

What do you do when your technology doesn’t easily fit on a single laptop and consists of many components?

Paul Curtis explains how MapR Technologies rolled out a containerized, scalable, globally available, and easily updatable environment using a combination of Kubernetes to orchestrate, shared data fabric to store and persist, and AppLariat to provide the user interface. This self-service system provides the flexibility to give the company’s field engineering teams tools to show off its technology and also provides an architecture that in itself is a blueprint for customers and prospects to use for their own requirements.

The field-facing system not only provides the method to display the technology but is also an educational and training tool for the field engineers as well. The ability to have sandbox environments for the engineers to test with and learn from goes beyond just formal training: they can use the technology hands on in their own time.

Paul details how the service was built, shares the lessons learned along the way, and explains how this service will expand in the future.
