Chris Harrold is the Global CTO for Big Data Solutions for EMC Corporation. He has been with EMC since the Isilon acquisition in 2011 and is based in Denver, Colorado far from the corporate headquarters where he can actually get some work done sometimes. He attended Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York and before starting his first job as a network and PC tech for New Times Publishing Group.

Since that first job, Chris has a 20+ year career in Information Technology with companies such as Microsoft, TWtelecom, and Century Link. His roles have included operations support, data warehousing and BI development, applications development, and security management roles. His expertise is currently applied to the development of large-scale analytics solutions for EMC customers around Hadoop and emerging analytics platform technologies. Chris’s background in data warehouses, development, and operational support allows him to bridge the gaps that form between operations and development and to build stronger integration between business units in solving analytics challenges.

Currently he is working on several large-scale projects developing Data Services Platform offerings for key customers, has authored a series of publications on Hadoop as a service offerings, and the new Analytics platforms and as-a-service models he is developing for EMC. In his spare time Chris enjoys the great outdoors, his long-board and Kayak, travel, and cooking.
