What does it mean to be the successful CTO of a small but growing startup? What are the skills that strong engineering leadership brings to the table to flourish in this environment? Startup leadership is more than just technical skills and requires a strong sense of priorities and balance, and yes, leadership.
In this session I’ll discuss some of the lesson I learned growing Rent the Runway’s technology organization from 15 to 60, rearchitecting the systems, putting in place the management structure, and fundamentally changing the company culture and the way we think about building products. These lesson provide an opinionated basis for thinking about the role of the CTO and the opportunities and challenges that the job provides.
Camille Fournier is the former head of engineering at Rent the Runway. She was previously a vice president at Goldman Sachs. Camille is an Apache ZooKeeper committer and PMC member and a Dropwizard framework PMC member.
