Devices are creating data, a brand-new flood of valuable facts about the world. Many call such systems an Internet of Things. However, it’s not just about things, it’s about a surge of fresh information. 50 billion things have things to say. How can we turn these statements of fact into meaningful insights?

In this talk Joel Young, CTO of Digi International, describes how to obtain the raw material for good insights from device data, what qualities make for the best information, and the value of recording rich diversity from the physical world. He will present real-world examples from organizations using sensor and device networks today, and show how combining a variety of information paths leads to a better understanding of their infrastructure, products and customers. These examples will illustrate how others can effectively extract information from the world and fully reveal the story that device data has to tell.
