Amanda Parkes
Professor/Designer, Columbia University

Amanda Parkes is a biomedia designer & fashion technologist. She runs Skinteractive Studio in Brooklyn, NY researching and developing technologies and hi-tech textile projects at the convergence of fashion, the body, biology, and materiality. She is also the co-founder and CTO of Bodega Algae, a company developing a modular, scalable, microalgae photobioreactor for the production of high-energy algal biomass for use in the production of biofuel and recipient of an NSF SBIR award. She teaches in the Columbia University Department of Architecture and is a visiting scientist at the MIT Media Lab.She holds a PhD in Tangible Media from the MIT Media and B.S. in Product Design and B.A. in Art History from Stanford University.
