RailsConf 2008 Call for Participation

Call closed 11:59pm 12/13/2007 PST.

RailsConf 2008 will be held May 29-June 1, 2008 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon—and Ruby Central and O’Reilly Media are now accepting proposals for conference sessions and tutorials. Proposals are due December 13.

Over three years after its initial release, Rails continues to shake the foundations of the web development world. With an ever-growing host of stable applications in production, Rails 2.0 changes the focus from rapid change and innovation to stabilization and maturity.

If you’re a:

  • Rails hacker
  • Rubyist
  • Web developer
  • Rails system administrator

or other interested, qualified practitioner with insights and stories you’d like to share with almost 2000 other Rails developers and IT professionals, tell us about it!

Proposals should focus on helping attendees by teaching from experience. Any Rails-related topic can be proposed. We’re specifically looking for a large number of advanced-level proposals the 2008 event. With so many excellent books and online resources available, we think the RailsConf audience would benefit from a larger helping of hardcore technical topics, particularly around design or coding techniques, testing tools, and deployment techniques.

Most importantly, be sure to show code! The best presentations are the ones that focus on real examples.

Some specific areas we’d like to see represented are:

  • Time-saving developer productivity tips, tricks, and tools
  • Patterns and best practices for developing maintainable Rails applications
  • Complex domain modeling with Active Record
  • Rails development case studies, including application rewrites and organizational bootstrapping
  • Heterogeneous systems integration
  • Real-world deployment and scaling
  • Making the most out of new Rails features
  • Gem and Plugin highlights
  • Extending Rails

Please be clear about the experience and knowledge level of the audience that you are targeting: novice, intermediate, or expert. Keep in mind that we look for a balance of all three experience levels when determining the conference schedule.

Proposals are due December 13, 2007
