There are a couple of common models being used for the deployment of open private clouds today (for the purposes of this presentation we will use Openstack and Cloudstack). In this presentation we will look at a few of these deployment models by looking at three primary networking intersections. The first intersection is at the hardware layer. We will look at Arista and Cumulus Network switches at this level and how they can be automated and managed in a full open cloud life cycle. The next intersection is virtual switching fabric. At this level we will look at how Open vSwitch and the Open vSwitch Database (OVSDB) and how they can also automated, deployed and managed. Last but certainly not least we will look at the increasingly important overlay level. We will start by looking at the deployment and management of tunnels (e.g., VXLAN, GRE and STT). We will also look at overlay (SDN) models that are using Opendaylight and also NSX. An undertone of this presentation will be how important the use of Devops practices are to all of these intersections from an automation and ongoing management perspective. Throughout the presentation there will be a number of real world case studies used as examples.
