Don’t forget to pack your running shoes and your glow-in-the-dark gear, because the OSCON 5K fun run is back. Whether you are an avid runner or just starting out, you are invited to join other OSCON attendees Sunday evening for a run/jog/walk through some of the most scenic and emblematic sites of Portland. Glow sticks and neon t-shirts will be provided, but we encourage you to add as much glow gear as you want (prizes will be awarded for the best light display). The run will start near the Oregon Convention Center and is open to all attendees and their guests who are at least 18 years of age.

The After Party

After the Glow Run, join us for a night of music, food and drinks as a kick off to OSCON and to celebrate your 5k accomplishments. To give you a true feel of Portland, we will have food trucks and a beer garden featuring local brews for you to enjoy before heading out to the dance floor and showing your “electric” dance moves. Make sure you outfit yourself in your craziest light gear for the “Best Costume” and “Best Light Display” contests.

After talking to a friend who got similar reading (i.e. 3.6 Mi), I’m convinced the organizers drafted the route based on flat distances. If you take into account inclines (and the triangles they form with the flat), then you can see how it’s off by nearly 1/3 mile (if you take into account slight gps accuracy tolerance).

According to the Google Map Bill posted the distance was 3.4380 miles

@allison Gillespie do you know when and if race results will be posted?

@Bill Barry the course is definitely longer than 5K. Between map and my GPS watch, I’d say it’s actually 5.6K (rounded). Also the incline profile would’ve been helpful. No knowing almost caught me by surprise. There are 4 very intense up/downhills.

Here is a maps version of the course. I extracted it visually from the pdf, so beware.

When I map the Glow Run run I get 3.44 miles. Has anyone directly measured it to see if this is correct?

Why don’t the walkers start 30-45 minutes earlier,
so everyone ends closer to the same time? And folks are going to be there doing registration anyway

@Marcos – no need to sign up for the after party. If you sign up for the run, then we just assume you’ll stay for the after party. Here’s the link to register for the run:
