Building for the static web is simple, but requires a new perspective. You will be using some familiar tools, some new techniques, and some very new thinking to create static applications that are performant, responsive, and maintainable. Topics will include:

  • What are static web apps? Why would I want to build them?
  • Introduction to the various pieces of static web architecture, including
    • Preprocessor languages
    • Static site generators
    • Front-end package managers
    • JavaScript application frameworks
    • Hosting solutions
    • Back-end service providers
  • noBackend and Offline First
  • The Browser as a User Interface Service
  • Exploration of some of the technical challenges of static architecture and how they can be overcome

Michael is a JavaScript and Ruby developer and the CEO/Cofounder of Divshot, a static web hosting platform for developers. He has been working to make web development better through open source contributions (such as OmniAuth, Grape, and Themestrap) as well as by speaking at events including as RailsConf, Confoo, Open Source Bridge, and OSCON.
