Elasticsearch is an open-source document store known for enabling search and real-time analytics on large data sets. We increasingly see Elasticsearch used to store machine-generated data, including metrics and monitoring information from devices of all shapes and sizes.

In this presentation we will walk through the development of an application that monitors the Parrot AR.Drone. This application will collect metrics from the drone and then transform them to JSON for storage and real-time analysis in Elasticsearch.

Then, using the Kibana open source visualization application, we will build a dashboard that shows in a glance key metrics about the health and actions of our drone. We’ll conclude with a test flight and see the real-time nature of the graphics provided by Kibana.
