Shaun Verch
Software Engineer, MongoDB

Sharing knowledge is something that I am very passionate about. I studied Operating Systems as an undergraduate at Brown University, and while I was there I often worked a TA for Math and Computer Science classes. I started working for 10gen after I graduated in 2012, and I’m very excited to teach, to learn and to get more involved in the open source community and the community around MongoDB.

Choosing a shard key can be difficult, and the factors involved largely depend on your use case. In fact, there is no such thing as a perfect shard key; there are design tradeoffs inherent in every decision. This talk will discuss those tradeoffs, as well as the different types of shard keys available in MongoDB, such as hashed and compound shard keys. Read more.
