AppScale: Flexible, Scalable, and Portable Deployment of Web Apps, Services, and Mobile App Endpoints

Moderated by: Chandra Krintz
Location: E146 Level: Intermediate

At this BOF, we present and discuss AppScale, an open source implementation of Google App Engine — think Google’s cloud platform under your control. AppScale executes App Engine apps without modification, automatically manages and scales apps and their service ecosystems, and enables developers to plug in different service alternatives (e.g. NoSQL, SQL, analytics, search,..) without rewriting their code. Moreover, AppScale plug-ins provide automatic failover and migration for apps running in Google App Engine which makes it easy to move your apps and data when necessary to other public cloud platforms (Google Compute Engine, Amazon Web Services, Azure, etc.) or on-premise clusters (including OpenStack, Eucalyptus, CloudStack, and virtualized data centers).
