Choosing a Search Engine - Best Practices/War Stories

Moderated by: Rich Kelm
Location: E145 Level: Intermediate

Initially this bof will create a framework of understanding as to how and why people choose a search server. Viewed through the lens of real-world examples as seen by Sphinx Search, an open source full-text search server that powers the search for numerous top-100 websites and big-data aggregators.

Once the foundation is solid, the bof will transition into a group forum where individuals can either observe or provide:

  • examples/best practices on choosing their/a search server – sphinx, elastic, solr or even mysql innodb/myisam & postgres
  • war-stories of bad choices → people learn from mistakes too!
  • questions – on how to… or even about Sphinx and it’s latest capabilities in the 2.x release series
