We’re From the Enterprise, We’re Here to Help.

More and more companies, large and small, are using open source software. Sometimes, in addition to just using the software they also want to try to support the development efforts. How hard could that be?

Well, it turns out it can be quite complicated. This talk will look at some of the challenges companies and projects face when trying to collaborate. We will look in detail at how Amazon embraced open source software and is now making significant contributions to the boto project rather than trying to compete with it with their own Python SDK offering. We will also examine the relationship between Amazon and open source libraries that build upon their API’s and recap the challenges, successes, and the strategies that are emerging to guide future collaborations.
