The presentation will start with a summary of the requirements and problems encountered when building realtime web applications, in the realms of concurrency, unexpected faults and distributed systems. We will also talk about the importance of websockets in today’s world.

We will then explore how Erlang supports the development of such systems, and the practical benefits this has on the software development process.

Finally we will explain how the Cowboy HTTP server fits into this context and how you can plug it into an existing system to leverage the power of Erlang.
