Sensor networks have many practical and scientific applications raging from industrial, environmental, and structural, to event monitoring and prediction. All of these applications have at least one thing in common: they generate data that must be stored and analyzed. This is often the most difficult part of designing and implementing a sensor network. This session will examine some solutions available for storing the data with a focus on using the open source MySQL system as the data repository. The following topics are covered in this session.

- Creating a data aggregate
- Node failure/error detection and logging
- Offline data collection
- Online data collection
- Data collection for prediction
- Data collection for detection

Dr. Charles A Bell is a Senior Software Engineer at Oracle. He is currently the lead developer for MySQL utilities and a member of the MySQL Backup and Replication team.

He is co-author of the book MySQL High Availability (O’Reilly Media, Inc.)

He lives in a small town in rural Virginia with his loving wife. He received his Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. His research interests include database systems, versioning systems, agile software development, and open source hardware.
