Social Commerce With Magento and Open Graph

Location: D137 Level: Intermediate

Social Commerce is a new e-commerce concept. facebook’s new Open Graph API’s (beta as of this writing, GA in mid-Jan) enable a whole new set of social commerce indicators. In lieu of the “Like” action on a URL, Open Graph enables users to associate any verb with any noun; such as JJ “wants” a “product”.

Merchants can add social indicators to their magento storefronts through the Social Commerce extension, a capability created by John Jawed and X.Commerce. Social indicators allow users to view what their social graph thinks of a product, brand, category, and merchant. Additionally, merchants benefit by having an automatic presence on facebook profiles without any additional marketing costs.

The open source Social Commerce extension is available on Magento Connect ( There is an revolutionary version of the extension due in June; participants of the session can help shape the next version of the extension through feedback as well.
